I was fortunate to pick up a used saltwater boat over the winter. I've spent my spare time this spring (of which there hasn't been too much of) going over the boat and getting it ready for launch. I took it for a test run last weekend and know I still have a few more things to work on- like checking fuel consumption at different RPM's, keeping an eye on the fuel gauge accuracy, and testing a few old hose runs under the floor (fish box drain, livewell lines), but *think* I'm ready to start focusing more on the fishing, rather than on concentrating solely on the boat. It's going to be a season on the salt for me- something I really haven't done since I left high school (prior to which I spent a lot of time on the salt).
My in-laws visited this weekend and gifted me a Fish Pond 'Sushi Roll' to fill with striper flies for the boat. I believe it's the extra-large model. I'm thinking I'll be able to Velcro it to the center console for easy access and ability to dry flies between use, while also being able to roll it up and take it off the boat easily for safe keeping.
I've now sorting through my old striper flies. What to include? I'm usually land-bound striper angler- either casting from shore or from wadeable areas. Saltwater angling from a boat is definitely going to be a change of pace for me. The flies get bigger. The tackle heavier. Etc...
