Talking out loud here...the rivers in western Maine are really low. The Kennebago in particular has to be 18+ inches below its normal fall level. Lots and I mean lots of people fishing the popular pools. I went by Steep Bank Pool a few times this weekend just to watch. 8 people fishing the pool Monday evening. It got me to thinking that on rivers like this if there should be a flow regulation? If it’s not greater than xcfs then the river is shut down? I’m not as much worried about the salmon as Mooselookmeguntic has way to many but the brookies are another story. I walked into a pool that is known to hold fall brookies and they were there. Earliest I’ve seen them there in my 20+ years of keeping a journal. And there we lots of boot prints up and down the pool. It’s like fishing for trout in a bat tub. Maybe I’m over reacting but I didn’t fish this weekend because the rivers are so low. Thoughts? Could a low water regulation work?
“Build the gate”!
