My father and I sledded through GLS over the weekend. Winter is still in full affect up there, with the local lakes still making ice, though there is not much of a snowpack to speak of. I’d guess less than a foot or so of snow in the woods, though it does have a high water content. Barring a late winter deluge, expect an early mud season.
Speaking of which- for those that travel the dirt backroads to access GLS in the spring, be aware that gates have been installed folks are intending to close them during mud season. Apparently, from what I’ve heard, the road damage from spring traffic has become untenable enough that the local “no gates” policy had to be revisited. Typically the commercial forestry lands open their gates on ~May 15th or when conditions allow. I would expect similar on the new gates.
