Hey All, I was just wondering if anybody has any insight as far as where to fly fish in late august in the great state of Maine. Currently living near Orono, Me/go to school at UMaine. Pretty much from what I can gather is that the greater Bangor region doesn't really provide much besides bass fishing and maybe the occasional pike during this time of year. Thanks a million!

The Penobscot River is good for bass this time of year if you can find some water!
Not much activity on the forum yet.
Good Luck.
Yeah, warmwater is where it's at local to that area until later in the fall. I grew up in OT and first part of September was always really good warmwater fishing. It's an awfully good time. Everything wants to eat once the water starts to cool off some. If you want trout within an hour drive, look for hilly ground that's a little more remote. I wouldn't usually find anything much happening until the very end of September. I think you're better off driving farther afield from that area to trout fish anyway. If you like driving, just make the time to go a little further to the well-known waters if you want to trout fish sooner than end of September. I don't think it's uncommon for east coast fly fishers who have the fishing bug bad to leave home or work at 3, hit the water at 5, fish until dark, then drive home. But I still tend to drive too much to catch fish. I regularly daytrip 3 or 3.5 hours each way and fish all day in the middle. Typing all this is giving me the itch. I gotta get out and catch a trout!
