Tom Ames Bug Seminar
Kennebec River Outfitters in Madison has put together a seminar program on aquatic insects with renowned entomologist Tom Ames (author of Hatch Guide for New England Streams). This program should prove to be very informational for the angler interested in better understanding the food that our beloved trout love to eat! See the details below:
---------------------
The Tom Ames “bug seminar” is a go! We feel we have enough interest to cover our costs and as such have notified Mr. Ames and the Evergreen’s accordingly!
Here's the deal..
* Date: Sunday 2/22 from 11am through 3pm
* Place: Evergreen Campgrounds in Solon (Route 201A)
* Price: $35 Per Person (includes a hot lunch & $10 TU donation)
* Agenda: Slide show, Q&A, stream sampling (if possible)
Space is somewhat limited and will be offered on a first-come-first-serve basis. Reservations can be made by calling the shop (Kennebec River Outfitters) at 474-2500 Tuesday through Saturday, or by emailing us at mallard@tdstelme.net.
A non-refundable $35 deposit will be required and can be made via credit card over the phone or by sending a check made out to “Kennebec River Outfitters” and sent to the address noted below. Any forfeited deposits will be split equally between SCTU and KRO to help offset our costs. Deposits must be received within 5 days of making your reservation or you will risk losing your spot (we need to get as many as possible in the room):

We are also going to have autographed copies of Mr. Ames invaluable book “Hatch Guide for New England Streams” available at $29.95 (soft cover). In addition, we will have "Bug Kits" for $49.95 (comes with 4 specimen vials, seine net, magnifying glass, tweezers, ID card, and pocket size zip-up Cordura case). Lastly we will have "telescopic" bug nets for $26.95 (car antenna with a small folding net - fits in your vest!), specimen vials for $12.95 (12), and maybe a few other "bug" related items.
Please note that 15% of all retail sales at the seminar will go to Somerset Chapter of Trout Unlimited (SCTU) so please consider this before purchasing any of the items noted above. It would also help if you would let us know in advance what items you would be interested in so that we bring enough. Money earned at the seminar will help this fledgling TU chapter fund a number of projects related to the Kennebec River this summer that will benefit all anglers who use this resource.
Lastly, we are negotiating with Mr. Ames to potentially do a 2-3 day “bug” study on the Solon stretch of the Kennebec. While we are proposing to fund much of this through donated driftboat time, lunches, car shuttles, lodging, etc., we will have some hard costs that we will need to offset. Money earned at this event would go a long way toward making this project a reality. The end result would be a paper and a presentation of our findings at a later date (and all will be invited to hear what we learned)
Regards and thanks for your support.
