Peak Rotary Vise Package PRV-G2

MSRP: $129.95
Company: PEAK Fishing
Website: www.peakfishing.com

We've recently tested a vise offered by a newer company out of Colorado, called PEAK Fishing. Right away, we must comment on the sharp looks of this vise. The workmanship speaks to high quality and attention to detail. All the fittings are perfectly machined, and the stand is substantial, so worry of slippage or tipping here. That said....how about using it?

First I'll start with the jaws. The standard jaws that come with the vise have superior hook holding capability, and will be all that is necessary unless you are planning on tying midges less than size 18, or large saltwater flies. In those cases, there are separate jaws you can buy for just those purposes, and they are easy enough to switch with an Allen wrench (provided). The cam-lock mechanism is also among the best we have seen, very easy to lock and unlock with a nice wide lever.

The rotary action is smooth as can be, and does not feel loose at all. The tension of the rotary is made with the adjustment of a white plastic nylon screw. The screw seems to work well enough, however does take away slightly from the aesthetics of an otherwise sharp-looking vise. Another similar screw holds the bobbin arm in place on the post.

Overall, we'd say this is vise is one of the best values out there, coming in at $129.95 with a lifetime warrantee. We highly recommend this vise to new tiers who are getting started or looking to upgrade their beginners vise to one that will last you a long, long time.
