Although we have little info on this great smallmouth fishery, it shouldn't be passed up as a canoe/fishing trip. Mr. Bronzeback will fight you to the bone here, and leave you coming back for more. 'I canoed the river a few years ago with a group. I didn't have great success above Grand Falls although I did see a couple of large brookies near Haskell Rock Pitch. Below the falls I enjoyed some of the finest Smallmouth fishing I've ever had. Pretty much any streamer I used got a smallie. I had particular success with a cone headed muddler. Below Whetstone Falls the river widens and deepens quite a bit so a weighted fly is a must.
