Description:
Visit the Rapid River in Western Maine and you'll be sure to have a fishing experience you won't soon forget. This river boasts an average brook trout at 2-3 lbs. according to locals, and fish topping 5 are not uncommon. This river gets its name from th e way it moves, rapid. With one of the most, if not the most rapid descents in Maine, the Rapid River gets down stream fast, dropping hundreds of feet in on its way down to Lake Umbagog from Lower Richardson Lake. The drop starts at the historic Middle Dam, with it's famous Lakewood Camps on its North Bank. From there the Rapid flows west to a several mile in diameter pool called Pond in the River. This water bewteen the Dam and the Pond, has been know to be very productive for both trout and salmo n in the 10 - 16 inch range. At the head and tail of Pond in the River, eager fly fishermen target the monsters of this water: large, tough, and beautiful to match Brook Trout.
