Description:
The Roach River is truly a jewel of a tributary in the Moosehead Lake Region. Strictly fly fishing only, catch and release, the river starts at First Roach Pond in Kokadjo and flows 6 1/2 miles dumping into Spencer Bay on Moosehead Lake. The Roach is classified as a river but it is not very wide or deep. Hardly 40’ - 50’ across at any point. The corridor was purchased in the 90’ by the state protecting the river 500’ on either side. We can all be assured that the Roach will always flow through undisturbed country. Because the Roach flows through paper company land it remains very remote with limited and difficult access. Logging roads along the north & south sides are at least a half mile to a mile from the river. Foot trails are limited and usually follow old skidder trails left from logging operation along each side.
