Come out this June 11-13 and join anglers from throughout the country at the 2nd annual FFIM spring conclave in the Rangeley region of the Western Mountains of Maine. Rangeley is an area rich in Fly Fishing history, home to fabled waters such as the Rangeley Lakes chain, and the Kennebago, Magalloway and Rapid Rivers. The latter is in danger of being damaged forever by an invasion of non-native Smallmouth Bass. The Rapid is home to the last wild population of large brook trout in the United States. Proceeds from the FFIM 2004 Spring Conclave will go to the aid of efforts dedicated to protecting and preserving this magical wild fishery.

This year, we are planning many activities. Events to be included are things like:

  • Seminars of Bamboo Rods
  • Demo Bamboo Rods from various makers
  • Fly Tying Instruction
  • Casting Instruction
  • Manufacturer Demo Products
  • Incredible Raffles and Auctions
  • and much more!

If you want to learn to fly fish or tie flies, learn about and see some bamboo and their makers, try out some new equipment, meet other like-minded fisher-folks, or just hang out and fish, come on down and bring a friend or two. This is the event of the year not to be missed.

     Featured Guests
    Kathy Scott
Growing up on a family farm in Northern Michigan, Kathy Scott, early in life, gained an appreciation for all things natural.  She carried this love of nature with her when she transplanted to Maine.  There, at the edge of the Great North Woods, she and husband David Van Burgel have chosen to live close to nature, sharing their chain of ponds with moose, mink and beaver.  Kat's passion to understand the natural world intertwines with David's dedication to handcrafting fine split bamboo fly rods; theirs is a lifelong immersion in the out-of-doors and the deep meaning of friendship.  When not in Maine or Michigan, they are most likely to be found with their dog Kodiak poking about wild places.

Kathy will be doing a reading on Saturday night before the raffle drawing. Her recent books are Moose on the Water, Bamboo on the Bench and Headwaters Fall as Snow.

    Bob Dionne
Bob Dionne is the propreitor of Aardvark Outfitters fly shop in Farmington, ME. Bob is a registered Maine Master Guide, and a certified FFF casting instructor. Bob will be available on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM to Noon at the RRG&SA clubhouse to help people out with casting instruction from beginners to advanced. There is no fee for the instruction, and everyone is encouraged to come and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to learn a new thing or two.
